Cocksburn Reservoir

Swimming in Cocksburn, (pronounced Coburn, I learnt this the hard way!), is always a very social event. I have swum here a few times with a group called Wild Wimmin Swimmin, this group is based in Stirlingshire and has been a great way for me to hook up with other ladies who love to swim. So, before I had found more local people to swim with, this group provided a great platform to meet like-minded people. They posted events, gave details of how to get there and welcomed any women along who rocked up to swim with them. It was a glorious explosion of tow float colour when I went along to my first event. Cocksburn is a small, but now disused reservoir, so provides a very pleasant space for a swim, because of its diminutive size, I was perfectly able to swim across the to the other side and back. It is sandy and a bit reedy getting in, but once you swim out that’s all forgotten and you enjoy the chat that wafts across the water as this large collective make their way across the calm waters. It’s one that gets quite pleasantly warm; being so small and can get busy with other swimmers and paddle boarders. This however only adds to the swimming experience, it feels like a really social, relaxed outdoor swimming pool all surrounded by a few trees and gently rolling hills. There is room to park at Dumyat car park or alternatively Pendreich car park. It’s a bit of a walk to the water, maybe five-ten minutes,  but it’s well worth it and the walk back warms you up if you are not already warmed from the good company and tea.

Swimble!

I love a little swimble,
it makes me feel so great,
although the waters freezing,
I really just can’t wait.
We wade into the water,
and swear and shout a lot,
counting down to dook time,
it’s such a lovely spot.
Ducks just think we’re crazy,
they seem to laugh out loud,
I just know that it helps me,
to step out from the crowd.
We swim about a wee while,
we think we’re so serene,
but sometimes we just cackle,
Strathearn swimmers are a team.
Getting out so graceful,
looks like we’ve been slapped,
quick to put the clothes on,
before we all get papped!
A cuppa is in order,
along with that a blether,
it really is the best,
in any type of weather.
