Nine, individual swimmers so brave,
entered the water this morn,
Nine swimmers, swam in that loch,
In that loch, our spirit was reborn.
Words to describe the feeling out there?
water, but oh, so much more;
those buttery, silky hands they did hold,
as we all swam away from the shore.
Smiles uncontrollable, head becomes clear,
smoothness surrounds as we swim.
Loch Voil, now your secrets, held in our hearts,
your waters, fill me up to the brim!
Today was a fabulous day out, i had created a swimming and lunch event for our swimming group. We had swum in Loch Voil at the start of the summer holidays and fallen in love with its silky waters. So we had decided to head back, but with parking along the road difficult, we had arranged to park at Monachyle Mhor and head in for lunch afterwards. So I had arranged a swim and tea dress get together, an opportunity to swim, to eat and to get dressed up….a little bit!
The weather was perfect, and nine of us did a car share up to the end of this beautiful loch, the hills were being shown off in all their glory, the colours popped against fabulous blue skies. Swimming in the glorious waters underneath their slopes was a true privilege and awesome experience, doing it with fabulous fun and laughter was the cherry on top. The water temperature was around 17c and we had a mix of wetsuit and skins swimmers, that stayed in for around twenty minutes. The water was a little choppy, with some really cold patches were the fresh water ran into the loch, the little beach area was stunning with a few trees dotted around to provide a bit of shelter and shade, there was not another soul in the water, nine of us had this incredible rejuvenating water all to ourselves. It was a little reedy walking in in places but a very sandy and gradual walk out to the water.
After we got changed into our glorious outfits, I handed out a small pink rose buttonhole that I’d made for everyone. We all looked and felt amazing. The hotel was welcoming and our preconceived ideas that it might be a bit stuffy was soon blown away. We had hot drinks to start with and then a soup and sandwich combo of individual choice, the butternut soup was absolutely delicious and the sour dough bread sandwiches were jam packed full of flavoursome ingredients. The staff were super chilled, helpful and relaxed. We finished with photographs on the beautiful lawn with fabulous hills as a backdrop, an amazing amount of feel good happy hormones got released today.
