A looking glass,
what did I see,
kinship warmth,
surrounding me.
Swim through silk,
life trails behind,
sinks below,
fresh air I find.
Mirrored waters,
swallow whole,
reflect a newness,
that had been stole.
As life continues to settle after a period of change, we often need an anchor to hold on to, swimming and the friendship it brings provides me with that mooring. After starting a new job, with a new set of people; who have all been perfectly lovely I hasten to add , it was however comforting this morning to meet up with familiar faces…and cake was involved which is always an added bonus.
Loch Earn when I arrived was like a mirror, stiller than I have seen it for a while, the mist hung in the hills and I sat for a quiet ten minutes soaking it all in before everyone else arrived.
Six of us swum this morning, a mix of skins and wetsuit swimmers, the water welcomed us with a gentle breeze and I think because there was no discernible difference in air and water temperature it was pretty easy getting into the loch. Smiles blossom once that water covers us and despite everyone doing their own thing, the grins are carried across the surface with the mutual understanding of what this is doing for us. It’s washing away the rubbish, it slides off us easily and nature finds a place then to bring stillness and quiet.
After about twenty minutes, and a cold water head dunk; the later is meant to be good for triggering the vagus nerve in our bodies sending signals for us to relax, it worked! It all worked.
A quick dress, follow by cuppa and cake finished it off perfectly, the company was light and easy and the carrot cake absolutely delicious. I’m now ready for my next week of work.
